Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., told reporters that "yeah" he would subpoena John Bolton, the former national security adviser, to testify before the House Judiciary Committee. Nadler said he has the backing of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Cal.
Pelosi's highly visible action in tearing up a copy of President Trump's state of the union speech just after he spoke shows the depth of her grudge against the President.
The Democratic line has been that because Trump -- purportedly -- lost the popular vote, his presidency is "illegitimate." This line is reinforced by the repetition of unproved claims of Russian collusion in supposed election fraud.
Bolton had volunteered to testify, if subpoenaed, by the Senate. A leak from a memoir he was promoting said that he had first-hand knowledge of the withholding of Ukraine aid to press for an investigation of corruption involving Joe Briden, a presidential aspirant, and his son Hunter.
That House Democrats will be happy with the idea of voting for another "impeachment" process seems unlikely.
The Senate acquittal of Trump was never in doubt, since a two-thirds majority is required for conviction. But what was in doubt was whether Trump would lose the impeachment vote by a simple majority, which then would have been interpreted as equivalent to censure.
As it stands, the entire impeachment process has been a strictly partisan matter, thus tending to devalue it in the eyes of most voters. The Communists and the radical left, along with the pro-abortion lobby, are continuing to push to topple Trump.
