Texas 'ramps up' testing as many states dither

New York readies assembly-line system

Unlike the many states which have been waiting to see what Washington tells them to do, Texas has taken the initiative to "ramp up" Coronavirus testing.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told Fox News, "What Texas has already begun is ramp up our testing capabilities. We set up 10 state laboratories around the state to conduct the tests so we don't have to send them to CDC." Abbott was referring to the federal Centers for Disease Control.

"We've now begun the process of [establishing] drive-through testing facilities," Abbott said. "The first one began today in San Antonio. There will be additional ones opening up to the next week or the week after in Houston, Dallas and Austin. So we are ramping up our testing capabilities."

The governor said President Trump's declaration of emergency releases funds that will help his state do more testing.

Also, on Friday New York Gov. Amdrew Cuomo told reporters the federal government and FDA had signed off on the state's request to run automated testing for coronavirus.

This new automated testing will allow New York state to run 6,000 tests a day under contract with 28 labs, QNS.com, according to published reports. To date, only 3,000 tests have been run in New York.
