The spook-media complex's conspiracy to imprison Julian Assange is yoked to its conspiracy to impose gag orders on everyone, including senators speaking on the Senate floor.
Playing for power, the crooks behind the curtains want to squeeze public dialog into the pre-internet straitjacket controlled by the few. Only pretend free speech permitted. No watching the government for real. That would damage the positions of the thieves and killers -- aka military-industrial oligarchs -- who believe they must control us all -- or they're done for.
Only manufactured consent is wanted. No rocking the boat.
So lock up Julian Assange and contemptuously refuse to repeat Rand Paul's question on air or YouTube. Spooks can't let -- you know -- just regular people or even senators jeopardize their high national security guru status.
Outbreaks of freedom must be squelched -- in the name of national security. Outbreaks of virus may be the ideal opportunity to squelch that freedom.
Pawns of the national security crowd are so anxious about power that they are actually trying to promote secret surveillance as part of the coronavirus response. An unreformed FISA court, the spook apologists say, should be teamed up with the national coronavirus response. Naturally, at least some lawmakers are aghast. And just as naturally (or unnaturally) some could care less, democracy being only a lip-service idea with them.
Say, wasn't there some fellow 2,000 years ago who had to pay the ultimate price in the name of national security?
