What was context of Trump's purported remarks?

If John Kelly had heard Trump disparage the memory of the U.S. Marine Corps' action at Belleau Wood in World War I, we can well imagine that Kelly, then White House chief of staff, would have been offended. After all, Kelly is a former Marine Corps general.

But it is hard to know what is going on, because the Atlantic hasn't named its source.

The context of the Atlantic story on Trump's allegedly anti-veteran, anti-serviceman remarks however may be more in line with Trump questioning the correctness of America's entry into World War I. There are even today plenty of Americans who question that action. I am not getting into that here. Just noting that fact.

But the author of the "expose," Jeffrey Goldberg, made it appear as obvious that anyone who questioned America's entry into World War I had a severe problem with patriotism. Deep thought doesn't seem to be Goldberg's forte. Perhaps that's why he went into the magazine business.

As for all the insulting things Trump supposedly said about servicemen, can you imagine that he would do that in front of people around him, such as Kelly, with military backgrounds? Not likely.

Another point to consider: the intelligence/security system is pulling out all stops to try to defeat Trump. And who might Kelly be? Might he be a member of that system. Sure he might.

I said previously that you can expect numerous generals, admirals and what not to come out and "reveal" awful things as Election Day draws nigh.
